Nōtan (濃淡) is a Japanese design concept involving the play and placement of light and dark elements as they are placed next to the other.
Monty Brooks is a filmmaker and photographer. He studied Film with the British Film Institute Academy (BFI), Photography at the Totnes Foundation Course and Arts University Plymouth. His film Digging Through Time won Best Documentary at the 2023 Greenwich Film Festival.
His work has an expansive, filmic quality. He explores the potential of light and negative space to lock in shape and suggest intimacy, holding tension and balance within the frame.
